Moley Robotic kitchen has launched: The most detailed overview of its innovative technology
As our Moley kitchen has arrived to the market and now is successfully presented on Gitex technology week, we provide a deeper insight of the features, capabilities, and customer values of the world’s first robotic kitchen.
About the Moley Robotic kitchen
The Moley kitchen is a fully automated kitchen unit, consisting of cabinets, robotic arms, a motion capture system, a connected GUI screen with access to a library of recipes, and a full set of kitchen appliances and equipment that have been optimized for both for robot and human use.
The robotic apparatus comprises two highly complex robotic hands and different types of sensors that are integrated into a highly precise and lightweight frame structure. They have the ability to replicate the movements of a human hand, while the robotic chef is capable of recreating the skills of human chefs, such as learning new recipes.
Moley Robotics is a proven innovator, bringing new kitchen architecture to the market. We invented the concept, and it is protected by our large, continuously updating patent portfolio.
After multiple cycles of development and testing, we transformed the concept prototype into a complex fully-functioning product that’s ready for consumer use.
A talented team of more than 100 engineers from a variety of world-class robotics companies applied the latest technologies. They have been supported by a team of interior and kitchen designers who completed the look of the kitchen with a combination of stylish form and exquisite materials resulting in the final, elegant look.
The development process that led to this innovative result
Robotic hand
The five-finger robotic hand is one of the key features of the kitchen. It is a revolutionary product, even amongst those that are comparable in the market. Thanks to sensors at the end of the arms, the robot can sense the pressure on the hand from different directions, which ensures the correct hold of objects and ingredients in the hand.
The robotic hand was developed in collaboration with world-leading German robotic company SCHUNK, Moley’s exclusive hand partner.
It went through 11 development cycles, instead of the three planned, to ensure that the required specification, reliability, and safety levels were achieved. The hand was tested on 100,000 operation cycles, which is what makes the level of reliability unique for anthropomorphic robotic hands.
From a pair of robotic hands to a complete kitchen
All the kitchen’s smart devices and components are integrated into one system, which makes the whole kitchen automated. A smart fridge informs you when the shelf life of a product is about to expire while also maintaining an optimum temperature curve for different types of ingredients.
A smart storage system informs you when products are running out. Meanwhile, computer vision systems and an infrared camera in the kitchen give the software engine information about objects and their characteristics such as color, texture, and temperature.
A 3-axis rail system allows you to reallocate the robot inside the kitchen operation space dynamically and use multiple appliances like the hob, sink, and storage systems. The automatic storage system’s idea is that any item can be delivered to the cooking area automatically. There are more than 50 sensors inside the kitchen, which ensure an accurate cooking process and eliminate any errors in the robotic arms movement.
The robotic kitchen is able to perform a sequence of around 30 operations, which allows it to cook more than 5,000 recipes. Currently, we have over 30 recipes in the library, which is being regularly updated.
A sophisticated, large GUI touchscreen is another point that makes the Moley kitchen stand out. With the help of the GUI, you can instruct the robot to create a particular recipe, define the ingredients, set the temperature for refrigerators, record the new recipes, and more. All the information about your kitchen and its settings are displayed on the GUI screen. The GUI screen allows you to operate a complex system with simple operations.
The smart Moley Kitchen system is unique because it’s made for both robot and human use as well, just in case you are in the mood to cook and use the Moley kitchen as a regular kitchen.
Design
When you hear “robotic kitchen,” don’t just imagine monochrome panels with steel handles. The kitchen has been created to be the jewel in the crown of any magnificent home interior.
Our kitchens are currently available in two styles: Luxury and Modern. The Luxury kitchens use chic and decadent materials such as Corian worktops, ebony lacquered panels and Patagonian marble kitchen island top. Meanwhile, our Modern designs deliver sleek and contemporary finishes using ceramic or Corian worktops and panels in sultry shades such as smoked eucalyptus.
Moley kitchen is available in two broad configurations; with or without the robotic hand. However, the with the module without robotic hands you can also enjoy smart functionality, and it’s possible to upgrade it with the robot at any time. Visit our newly launched website to see a variety of configurations and designs.
In order for our clients to integrate their kitchens into the different layouts of their apartments, houses and even private yachts, we are also going to develop different kitchen architectures as well.
Safety
Product safety has been a top priority, which is why several features have been integrated so you can rely on its safety systems and processes.
The materials used for all the kitchen components are industrial grade, used in the space industry and industrial production facilities, and are of the highest quality.
There is round-the-clock online support available for users as well.
There is also the option for an automatic fire extinguishing system, which can be built into the kitchen. This, in addition to a regular home fire alarm, will monitor for fires.
And last but not least — health safety. The Moley kitchen has an automatic cleaning system — the robot will clean the worktop before and after cooking, disinfecting the worktop and the air in the cooking zone with a UV lamp.
Patents
In bringing such unique ideas to life, we often found that the technologies we required did not exist, so we had to create them from scratch.
As a result, we have successfully filed over 70 patents in the development process, some of which have already been granted. It makes Moley Robotics the absolute leader in terms of robotic kitchen development approaches — no companies involved in similar product developments have such an extensive patent portfolio.
Software updates
Robotic system learning is continuously ongoing. All kitchens will be connected to a single monitoring center that ensures system updates with every software update released.
The next step in the Moley journey will also make it possible to operate your kitchen from your smartphone. So, you will be able to set it to cook your dinner on your way home from work and have it ready and waiting for you when you arrive.
Library of recipes
The Moley kitchen library of recipes and tips from chefs allow you to leave the cooking to the robot or choose to cook for yourself when you’re in the mood. You can save recipes, add new ones and share them with other users. As a result, Moley makes healthy eating easy and helps to reduce waste.

The library consists of a wide range of recipes for self-cooking in case you want to do it. The GUI screen can also teach you to cook a new dish by showing a recipe step-by-step.
In the future, we plan to integrate with ingredient suppliers that will ensure the supply of all the necessary, even rare, ingredients for recipes when you want them.
Cookware and utensils
Finally, we decided that an extraordinary kitchen needs extraordinary cookware. So, we have designed the world’s first cookware and utensil collection, adapted both for robotic as well as human hands.
10 pieces of cookware and 8 pieces of utensils with exquisite design, thermo resistant handles and stainless steel body complete the Moley Kitchen products line. And from today the Moley Robotic cookware and utensils are available for pre-orders on Indiegogo.
Commercial kitchen
The first Moley kitchens have been developed for residential use; however, our commercial kitchen solutions are well underway.
We are currently in the process of finalizing integrated robotic solutions for commercial kitchens, including separate component technologies as well as a complete cooking experience. The commercial kitchen will be adaptable and customized to individual cooking zone architecture and requirements, supporting hotels and restaurants as well as healthcare institutions and elderly houses in delivering healthy, freshly cooked gourmet food safely and efficiently.
The relevance of the product due to the Covid-19 epidemiological situation
Safety and hygiene requirements have been our priorities when creating the robotic kitchen. Minimal human contact in the cooking process, smart storage and refrigeration systems, cleaning systems for the worktop including disinfection with a UV lamp, as well as the absence of the need to leave the house for a delicious dinner, all make the robotic kitchen more relevant than ever.
The owner of a robotic kitchen has the opportunity to maintain their usual eating habits and access to fresh dishes from around the world in a safe, home environment.
Mission
Our mission is to bring robotic technologies to every home.
We envisage that our technology will not just be used by busy people, but also groups who desire the ability to live independently and improve quality of life, such as the elderly or disabled. We aim to offer everybody access to robotic assistance.
We anticipate that our pricing will be reduced significantly over time with production volume, efficiencies and economies of scale, whilst simultaneously enhancing additional functionalities of the product. Our production cycle and evolution will reflect that of technologies such as electric vehicles, personal computers and smartphones.
All together it makes the Moley kitchen one of the most innovative robotic solutions, set to transform the cooking process and make our lives easier and healthier. The main philosophy behind the robotic kitchen development is providing total freedom for individuals when food preparing.
Thanks to six years hard work from our highly professional and creative team and partners, that vision has become reality.
